10.27.10

Dear Husband,

Lately you have been making my lunch for me MANY more times than I make yours for you.  For this, I am not sorry, because my lunch tastes 1000 times better when you make it.  Dear Biggest Loser, thank you for providing people and/or scenarios that result in my husband making some knee-slapping jokes.  Keep em comin'.  Dear Halloween, I am so sad to miss you again this year.  A pirate next year, for sure.  Dear husband, yesterday we had our feet scanned at the Mizuno truck.  With our powers combined, our beebs should have normal feet.  Dear cuckoo patient, you make my job interesting...and a hair over a smidge dangerous.  Good thing I am training for the SWAT team.  Dear husband, on Sunday you did your first official official (or it seemed official to me) bike consulting thingy.  You are brilliant.

Wife.

Laws of the Land that is our abode

If you haven't caught on, we are pretty serious people.

and we've created some very strict rules in our matrimony.

These include but are not limited to:

1.  When I am carrying a hammer, screwdriver, pliers, chainsaw through the house, if Devin sees me (key words, y'all), I have to explain what I am doing with said tool.  Unless he isn't home.  Muahaha.

2.  Devin does not do laundry.  This is due to my insecurity that he will shrink the one Anthropologie item that I own.  So, he no touch.

3.  When we got married, we had a queen spring bed.  Long story short, for my safety, we bought a massive tempur-pedic king size bed.  And now, Devin sumo wrestles boa constrictors sleeps on a queen size portion of said bed with fluffy bunny cloud pillows, and I get a twin size portion with cardboard pillows.  I am working on amending this rule, but I prefer this to the trampoline we had before.

4.  Devin only has to come with me to the ER once a year.  This brings me to rule number 5

5.  I avoid the bread knife

6.  Devin always drives.  Partially because I hate to drive, partially because I like to avoid him laughing at me when I am trying to park.  Partially because I enjoy the adrenaline rush that comes with riding with him.  Every. time.

7.  In the event that we are both starving without access to food in the very near future, we do not speak to each other.  It's better this way.

8.  Devin wakes me up every morning (except Saturdays when I all of the sudden can spring alive at 5am to go torture myself on a run).  He also tends to put me to bed.  This typically involves prying the book out of my hand that I am still holding up.

9.  If my lamp is on and I fall asleep, he has to turn it off.  I expect some argumentative comments on this one.

10. Saying something negative about myself in front of him automatically results in push ups.  This goes for him, too.  10 per offense.

11.  If one of us ever even thinks the words "Maybe we should get a minivan", that is reason enough to leave.  This is a serious rule in our house.

12.  Once a rule is on the blog, it's a real live rule.

Oh, right, I have a blog

There is a lot going on in our world, people...and by a lot I mean nothing which is why I haven't written anything in days which just leads to emails full of harassment from certain readers.

So here we are and here's what's going on.

If anyone forgot how retarded my husband and I are, let me remind you in saying "oh, remember the time we signed up for a marathon?"  About a week ago, DC and I had a simultaneous panic attack about said marathon (January 30, Houston, be there with sparkly glitter signs that say my name on them).  You would think a panic attack would lead us to throw our shoes on and go for a run, but really we just sort of ended up eating and talking about it.  Anyway, we are still training for that, waking up at 5am every blasted Saturday, dealing with foot pain, knee pain, sciatic pain, migraine pain, frustration, etc.  This Saturday we're up for a 15 and 10 mile run.  Pray for our marriage.

I am half way through Harry Potter year 4.  Loving.  It!  Have I ever mentioned I love wizards?  And pirates.

Speaking of almost November, I am starting my Christmas shopping (even though it's 90 degrees in Houston and feels like June) soon.  I will also be applying the second portion of Days' rule #1 to our household.  I will be purchasing this and this on itunes today.  Christmas is coming the goose is getting fat!

Also in running news, tomorrow I will run my 20th run with the BON club which earns me a discount to Lululemon for a year.  I think I'll reward my 15 mile run with some new shorts.  Because it's almost November and it's 90 degrees in Houston.

10.15.10

Dear Husband,

Sometimes I like to spice up my Friday morning. Sometimes that means driving to work in our party glasses from the Jellie wedding and dancing in the parking lot. Hopefully these are some of the reasons that you married me.

You are leaving me this weekend to go play mountain bikes with all of your boyfriends. I am jealous of the food you will have there. Also, Dan, can we split the winnings? I made the pies. Unless they’re gross…then Devin made the pies.

While you’re gone I have very exciting, secret, scandalous plans.

Things like reading without interruption. Side eye.

Things like 13 mile runs at 6am on a Saturday. This will include me waking up at 5, turning ALL of the lights on, making coffee in the loud coffee pot, and perhaps turning on some inspirational jams. Like Seal.

Things like a delicious dinner with the birthday kids.

Let’s stay concussion free and clothed this weekend, k?

Wife.

Faster, lighter enchiladas arriba arriba!

I didn't have a tomato, so I used whole ones in a can, rinsed them, drained them, and chopped them

_MG_5198

Mix up the green onions, cheese, cottage cheese, and tomato

_MG_5201

Layer corn tortillas (we use Mission- they have the best ingredients and nutrition facts that we can find) and then half of the mixture on top of the tortillas

_MG_5208

Do it again.  At this point, I put it in the fridge until Devin got home; it was too early to cook it.

_MG_5209

This is what corn tortillas do in the fridge.  Just flip em over.

_MG_5212

_MG_5213_picnik

Drench in enchilada sauce

_MG_5214_picnik

Layer with cheese, cook.

My recommendation is to not get cheese that is labeled "reduced fat".  It won't melt as well.  Get one that says "Made with 2% milk".  Still lighter, but will act more like cheese and less like orange plastic weirdness

Check out this recipe for full instructions

Get Back Honky Cat

This morning I drove to work with the windows down, sun roof open, blaring “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”.  I’m awesome.

My husband is leaving me for the Mountain Man.  Man crush extreme.

I made these last night.  PW lies.  It took at least 3 hours.  But they are oh…oh so good.  I didn’t attempt to make them healthy like I do most cookie recipes (then again those never turn out well), so I guess they are pretty terrible for you.  Yeah, they are.  I couldn’t believe how much stuff I was putting in there, especially because I doubled the batch for our party tonight.  And then I had one for breakfast with my coffee.

Get some 31 bits.  I have one.  It’s awesome

We are SO craving a dog.  We need one.  Drat you, $800 pet deposit.  If you need a dog sitter, please call us.

Welcome to Jerryland

stadium

Lu and I went up to Dallas for a Cowboys game with my aunt and Goggle, who came from Las Cruces.

My whole life I have been raised to hate the Cowboys.

I have never known why though.

Anyway, the stadium is incredible and is home to the largest screen ever I think?

My uncle has season tickets.

He lives in New Mexico.

That’s pretty die hard if you ask me.

My Big Fat Greek Hot Date Part 1

We rode our bikes over to the Houston Greek Festival for some dinner, wine, mud coffee, pastry, and music.  Nothing beats pulling right up to the gate on your bike.

We perched on the curb for some dinner and talked about taking pictures, pedicab business endeavors, and epic boys only mountain bike trips.  Don’t worry, Taylor’s wife and I are going to Greece.

Be still my heart.

If my babies don’t come out looking EXACTLY like this, they’re going back.  Beard included.

Part 2 to come.  I left our computer at home when it was in the progress of sending me the other pictures, and then it didn’t.

Keep a lid on the junk in that trunk

Did anyone ever see that Dane Cook bit where he is all, “THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN WAKING UP LATE FOR A JOB YOU HATE!”  Well…yeah.  Anyway, that has nothing to do with this.

There’s this website that I love…

untitled3

and they want to feature DC’s Black Bean Hummus recipe this afternoon.  What the what?!  Has anyone read that recipe?  It, like, doesn’t have any measurements.  I love it.

Fit bottomed girls is all about staying in shape, trying new things (they do awesome work out DVD reviews), reviewing new products, they have recipes and excellent giveaways, they write about fitness struggles, interview hard core people like Jackie Warner and Denise Austin (why are you laughing?  she could STILL totally kick your butt), and they spend some time obsessing over one of Devin’s man crushes (ahem Bob Harper)

BobJillian

(every Tuesday, DC seriously considers getting some LEGIT tattoos)

and also they got me hooked on Jillian and her killer DVDs and my love for grew and so our love affairs really work out for DC and me.

Anyway, check them out here.  They are legit and they also apparently like black bean hummus.  High five to the huz for making things up as he goes.

10.5.10

Dear Husband,

Has it been a year and a half? Time flies when your life is a constant dance party with your best friend in ze world. Best year and a half of my friggin’ life.

Thank you for your forgiveness and for giving me constant grace so I can try to get better at communicating with you. I totally sucked at that last week. I swear I cannot wrap my mind around the amount of patience you have for me.

This weekend, when the big cheese tried to ruin my life, you totally upped your game and made it one of the best weekends in our matrimonial history. Thank you for your support when I want to walk STORM out of there. Thank you for your flexibility. Thank you for remembering I am a spa addict (a total understatement). Thank you for being patient. Thank you for understanding. Most importantly, thank you for the vodka cranberry you had waiting for me.

Bottoms up,

Wife

Mr. Postman Look and See

The nice people at simplecard dot com emailed me a few weeks ago asking if they could send me some personalized post cards.  Uh…yes?!

cardThey are the cutest things.  They are so me and perfect for fall and, naturally, they have my name on them.

Side note- when I was ready to upload my pictures of the cards, all of the sudden our internet was down, so I had to opt for an iPhone picture.

They have about ten zillion kinds to choose from and tons of other things to make.  A perfect Christmas gift, if I do say so myself.

Go check them out here

Happy Monday!

20

peace

1.  It’s Friday.  Giddy up.

2.  On Monday I wrapped this Allie wedding favor around my head to feel a little groovy.  When I walked into the apartment, Devin told me I am a mess.  Then he put on his party glasses.  I love living with a boy.

3.  The patients I work with have been madder this week than they have been in a long time.  Things are not stable where I work.  It’s a pretty emotionally draining job that I have, and I have yet to mentally deal with some of the names I have been called this week, some of the sad things I see, and the man who thought it was a good idea to tackle me on the train and then follow me off of it.

4.  Our half marathon is November 20th.  I think we’ll be more than ready.

5.  I have a hair appointment today.  I always schedule it with Patty at 5:30 on Friday so that she will serve me a margarita or two and let me gripe about my week.

6.  Hair dressers, I think, could coast through psychiatry school.  Or just charge extra for the advice they give.

7.  When I told DC I was going to get Zoe Deschanel bangs, he cringed and acted like he would miss my forehead.  This coming from the guy who suggested I bring the bangs back.  What do you want from me?!

8.  Thanks to the people who asked where the blog has been.

9.  I’m in a funny place right now

10.  I love my husband and I am so glad he handles me well.  I really am an unpredictable mess 98% of the time, and that can, I would imagine, be hard to adjust to.

11.  Last night we had some friends over to watch the Aggies get beat in the last millisecond and a few of the girls told me they loved our place and that it was so homey; not apartment like at all.  The day we moved in I told DC, “I want this to feel homey”.  That was such a refreshing thing to hear.

12.  I am missing my brothers

13.  I saw that Austin has a program at Town Lake on Saturdays where you can “rent” a dog for your morning run.  The dogs are shelter dogs that need some exercise.  They set up a booth at the lake, and you just sign one out and return it when you are done with your run.  Brilliant.  Reason 239274 why we would be elated to be in Austin.  Someone please tell me Houston has this too.

14.  I love October.  And November.  And December.

15.  I am going to start a new book this weekend and hope it is one I can’t put down.

16.  The other day Devin listed all of the “career moves” he has heard me say I would LOVE to do.  These included, but are not limited to being Minnie Mouse at Disney World, being on the Houston SWAT team, being a Zookeeper, Preschool teacher, Dog Walker, Back up dancer for Britney, Navy Seal, and a mom.

17.  I think school sounds good.  I’d like to be a student.

18.  My mother in law is going to make a cherry pie sometime soon due to my craving slash the lack of cherry pie in holiday menus.  She rules.

19.  I painted this week and it was so good for me.  Therapeutic almost.  I told Devin I want to pain more, but like, not to be good at it.  What does that even mean?

20.  Our weekend plans: disappear.  MUAHAHA.
